Thunder 0 - Mustangs 5

Thunder 0 - Mustangs 5

Grace Bell

It was an unfortunate start to the season for the CD Dodd Perth Thunder Saturday night, as they fell to the Melbourne Mustangs 5-0 at Perth Ice Arena.

Christian Isackson registered a goal and an assist for the Mustangs, while Jaden Pine-Murphy posted a shutout as the Melbourne side overpowered the Thunder to continue their strong start to the season.

The Mustangs started their scoring off early in the first period at 13:57 with a goal to Jamie Bourke, assisted by Brendan McDowell.

There was then a slight pause in play after a mighty hit caused the glass panel to come loose, before the Thunder then entered their first power play of the night, putting some excellent pressure on goal.

With a brilliant pad save from Nico Viksten and some solid offensive pressure, the Thunder managed to go into their second power play with less than five minutes remaining on the clock.

That penalty was killed off and when Michael McMahon scored on the power play for the Mustangs, the period finished with the Perth Thunder trailing 2-0.

The second period started similarly to the first with the Mustangs scoring early on through Matt Anderson and while there was plenty of hard hits and pressure being applied with the Thunder having another two power plays, they entered the third period down 3-0.

Viksten then had his work cut out for him with rapid multiple attempts on goal, and half way through the third period, Patrick O'Kane scored again with the assists from Mitchell Humphries and Christian Isackson to stretch the lead to 4-0.

With three minutes in the final period remaining the Mustangs drove home their win with another goal from Isackson bringing the game to a 5-0 loss for the Thunder.

Don't miss out on tickets for Sunday as the CD Dodd Perth Thunder boys come back hungry for redemption and a win.
