The CD Dodd Perth Thunder are delighted to welcome our newest import to the Thunder family – Canadian Forward Keven Veilleux.
Veilleux has an impressive history with the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins, being drafted 51st overall in 2007 and spending time in their NHL training camp.
Veilleux also spent three seasons with Pittsburgh’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and a season with the Portland Pirates, then-affiliates of the Arizona Coyotes.
In his time in the AHL, Veilleux racked up 95 games, 42 points, and a reputation as a physical, high-scoring player, and Thunder General Manager Stan Scott says Veilleux’s imposing six-foot-five-inch frame will be his greatest asset in the AIHL.
“We’re pleased to land a high-calibre, physical forward like Keven,” Scott said. “He was highly touted in his draft year, and has played a lot of hockey in physical leagues like the AHL and LNAH while scoring at a high rate; we think he’ll be well-suited to Australian hockey.”
Veilleux’s junior experience was spent playing in Quebec, culminating in Veilleux being part of the gold medal-winning under-17 World Hockey Challenge team, alongside current Tampa Bay Lightning forward Alex Killorn.
Most recently, Veilleux has been playing in Canada’s LNAH league, accumulating 126 games in one of the toughest leagues in the world, spending the past season with Rivière-du-Loup 3L, where he played with former Thunder forward Pier-Olivier Grandmaison.
