Thunder 7 - Adrenaline 1
Monday, July 8, 2019 - Submitted by Staff Writers

The CD Dodd Perth Thunder have jumped to within one point of third place after they recorded their fourth consecutive win with a comprehensive 7-1 victory over the Adelaide Adrenaline on Sunday night.

Led by a five-point performance from Keven Veilleux, the Thunder cruised for most of the outing with Veilleux, Jake Gilmour and Kieren Webster each recording two-goal games.

The Adrenaline put up a fight during Sunday’s game, with neither team scoring in an end-to-end first period of hockey until the last minute.

Jake Gilmour netted the first goal of the game and his first AIHL goal of the season, having contributed 2 assists during the previous weekend and 2 assists on Saturday.

It didn’t take Gilmour long to get his second AIHL goal, finding the back of the net early in the second before Veilleux rocketed an unassisted bullet against Adelaide’s Jesse Gordichuk.

The Adrenaline were unable to answer Thunder’s goals in the second, leaving the game at 3-0 going into the third.

Veilleux added his second goal of the game in the opening minutes of the third period, before Webster added two of his own back-to-back goals.

Adelaide was able to get one past Viksten in the meantime, bringing the score to 6-1.

The third period saw both teams getting hit with penalties as they fought to secure the win, totalling 9 penalties between the teams.

Gordichuk swapped himself out for Glen Forbes-White halfway through the third before Breault added the seventh goal to the board, finalising the score.

It was a big weekend for imports and locals alike, with Veilleux scoring 7 points and Webster adding 5 to his total.

It was exactly the performance Thunder knew they had to execute to ensure their place in the top four on the AIHL ladder, with games coming up against the Melbourne Mustangs next weekend being crucial in the Thunder’s season.
