Hi all Thunder fans, players and volunteers,

I am writing this to inform you all that I will be stepping down as head coach of the Perth Thunder. This is not a decision that has come easy to myself, as I have really enjoyed my time as a coach of Perth Thunder organisation.

I joined the coaching staff in 2014 as an assistant coach and then took over for the 2015 campaign and felt I have grown as a coach and a person during this time.

While I feel the team has had good success with 2 finals appearances, I feel I am leaving the squad in a solid position to take another step and win the Goodall Cup.

I have found with the birth of my first child Henry in July and my growing business, I can’t put the time into the team that I have done in the past, and this is not fair on the players or management of the team.

However, Thunder Fans haven’t seen the last of me come Thunder games; although I’m stepping out of the head coach role, I am taking up a new position in the club as Director of Hockey. This new role is exciting and will have a new set of challenges that come with it and I am looking forward to it.

A new season and a new future awaits us; I feel 2017 will be a great year for your Perth Thunder with many exciting things in the works, so make sure you snap up your memberships and don’t miss a minute of the action this season.

I would like the thank the Players for their support and commitment to me over the years. The effort that everyone puts in has shown in our success so far and I am proud of each player that wears the Thunder jersey or is at our trainings trying to develop in to a better player.  You guys are a great squad and I wish you all continued success for the future wherever it takes you.

To the management: thanks for taking the chance on me and giving me the opportunity to have the head coach role. It has been a very exciting ride and I have learnt more in 3 years coaching at this level than ever before. It has been a great experience and one that I will never forget.

To the sponsors, volunteers and fans: you guys are awesome. The support you all give us and passion that you have for our club is very exciting to see; you all make the club and the hockey experience a great one at every game and I thank you whole heartedly for your support and dedication, you are the best fans in the country.  I look forward to being able to see and speak to more of you at each game while we cheer on the boys.

Thanks everyone for the support and I look forward to the 2017 season
“Here we go Thunder here we go”

Yours in hockey,
Dave Kenway
Perth Thunder Director of Hockey
