The CD Dodd Perth Thunder have closed the gap on third place in the standings after a stirring 4-3 come-from-behind win over the Sydney Bears at Macquarie Ice Rink on Sunday night.
A career night for Kieren Webster (two goals, two assists) and another four points for Keven Veilleux saw the Thunder erase a two-goal deficit in the final six minutes of play to skate away with a win in regulation time.
Webster had the only Thunder goal until the final six minutes of the game, sandwiched between three Bears goal as the Thunder stared down the barrell of two straight regulation defeats and a zero-point road trip.
Webster doubled his tally to breathe life in to the game with 5.38 remaining, before Veilleux took over the show, registering two goals, including the go-ahead goal with just 68 seconds remaining, to hand Thunder all three points.
The win will prove to be crucial for the Thunder in the context of the season, as the gap between them and the third-placed Bears remains at just one point, while they still hold a six-point advantage over fifth-placed Melbourne Mustangs.
Another crucial weekend series awaits the Thunder, with the Newcastle Northstars coming to town on August 3-4, and two wins would put the Thunder in striking distance of a top-two finish.
