Kieren Webster has become the first local player named Thunder’s Most Valuable Player, with the winger bagging the coveted trophy at the Thunder’s awards ceremony on Saturday night.
In what has been a breakout 2019 season, Webster’s 38 points (20 goals, 18 assists) were seen as enough by his teammates to not only be worthy of Best Local, but also team MVP.
Rob Haselhurst marked his return to the Thunder line-up this season by being named the team’s Best Defenceman, while the award for Most Improved was won by Lynden Lodge, who cemented his place in the team this season.
All awards for the Thunder are voted on by a players ballot before the final home game of the season. Webster joins Ken Rolph, Toni Kluuskeri, Thomas Heemskerk, Peter Di Salvo and PO Grandmaison as MVP winners.
