Perth Thunder's win streak has ended at nine after a 3-2 defeat at the hands of reigning champions the Newcastle North Stars in Newcastle on Sunday evening.
Coming to the end of a tough road trip, the Thunder were forced to defend for large portions of the game by the North Stars, who launched 39 shots on net to the Thunder's 27.
Jessyko Bernard and Kieren Webster continued their goal-scoring form for the Thunder, each tallying one goal, while Jordy Kyros, Andrew Cox, Jamie Woodman and Ben Breault all found their way on to the score sheet with assists.
The North Stars took the lead a little over a minute in to the game, and doubled it to 2-0 just under two minutes in to the second period.
Bernard tallied on a 5-on-3 power play opportunity for the Thunder to cut the score to 2-1 just a few minutes later, and the score remained at 2-1 through to the second intermission.
Newcastle regained a two-goal lead just over four minutes in to the third period, and with just under two minutes remaining, Webster's goal gave the Thunder a chance of keeping their winning streak alive.
However, it wasn't to be for the Thunder, with the club record for consecutive wins now standing at nine after the 3-2 defeat.
The loss leaves Thunder in second place in the AIHL standings, six points adrift of top-placed Melbourne Ice, heading in to the AIHL All-Star break.
All teams now have a bye, with the AIHL All-Star festivities taking precedence next weekend. Ben Breault, Michael Dorr, Rob Haslehurst and Andrew Cox will represent the Thunder in the All-Star game.
The Thunder's next fixtures are on June 18-19 against the Adelaide Adrenaline at Perth Ice Arena. You can secure your tickets
