The Perth Thunder have fallen 3-1 to the Adelaide Adrenaline, with Adelaide snapping a six-game losing streak at Perth Ice Arena on Saturday night.
It was a tight tussle throughout, but it was a third period marred by penalties that decided the outcome, with Adelaide scoring twice in the third to take the three points.
After a scoreless first period, All-Star MVP Michael Dorr opened the scoring for the game, tallying on the assists from Jessyko Bernard and Ben Breault to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead after six minutes of the second period.
Adelaide then scored with just six seconds remaining in the second period to tie the scores at 1-1 heading in to the second intermission.
Thunder defenceman Per Daniel Goransson was assessed a five minute major penalty and a game misconduct for elbowing after 12 minutes of a tight-checking third period, and Adelaide scored what turned out to be the game winning goal on the ensuing power play.
The Adrenaline added an insurance goal late in the game to stretch the lead to 3-1, which would end up being the final score to hand the Thunder their second consecutive loss.
The re-match will commence at 4.30pm today, with the Thunder hioping to reverse their form and mark local forward Jonathon Bremner's 100th game with a return to the winner's circle.
