The Perth Thunder have split the weekend series against the Adelaide Adrenaline, winning an action-packed affair 6-3 at Perth Ice Arena on Sunday night.
Michael Dorr continued his remarkable run of form, tallying four points (2G, 2A), while Rob Haselhurst tallied three points (1G, 2A) including the game-winning goal, as did Jessyko Bernard (1G, 2A).
Thomas Heemskerk saw plenty of action in net as well, stopping 38 of 41 shots on net to continue to stamp his card as the best goalie in the 2016 AIHL season.
The Thunder hammered 48 shots on the Adelaide net, including 24 in the third period alone; while the power play went 2-for-7 and the penalty kill were a perfect 0-for-4.
Andrew Cox opened the scoring for the Thunder with a power play goal just before the first intermission, before the Adrenaline put the Thunder on their heels with two goals in a little over a minute to start the second period.
The Thunder then killed two penalties before Michael Dorr blew a slap shot in to the Adelaide net to level the scores at 2-2 after two periods.
Dorr then doubled his tally just seven seconds in to the third period, pouncing on an unusual rebound to give the Thunder a 3-2 lead.
Rob Haselhurst then doubled the advantage for the Thunder, with his one-timer on the power play taking the score to 4-2 before the Adrenaline scored to cut the deficit to one goal.
Michael Dorr then made a great cross-ice pass to an open Ben Breault, who dutifully hit the back of the net to take the score to 5-3.
Rob Haselhurst was robbed by an incredible save from Adelaide goalie Peter King, who batted the puck out of mid-air as Haselhurst shot the puck at an open net, before Jessyko Bernard hit the empty net from deep in his defensive zone to seal the Thunder’s 6-3 win.
The Thunder have a bye next weekend before travelling to Melbourne to take on the Mustangs on July 2-3, with the next home games coming on July 9-10 against CBR Brave.
