Perth Thunder started their away weekend in Sydney with a 4-2 win over the Sydney Bears at Penrith Ice Palace on Saturday evening.
The game was a tight one after two period with the Thunder holding a 1-0 lead, but three goals in a 90-second third period burst saw the Thunder blow it out to 4-0 before holding on in a late surge from the Bears to record a 4-2 win.
Jamie Woodman opened the scoring after seven minutes of the first period with his third goal of the season, with his defence partner Per Daniel Goransson tallying the lone assist.
The second period passed by scoreless before Goransson doubled the Thunder advantage with a goal of his own to make the score 2-0 after eight minutes of the third period.
The imports then combined to take the score to 3-0, with Ben Breault credited with the goal and Michael Dorr and Jessyko Bernard eack tallying their second assists of the night just 41 seconds later.
It then took just 36 more second for the Thunder to take a commanding 4-0 lead when Bernard scored his third point of the night, with the assists to Breault and Dorr.
The Thunder held off a fast-finishing Bears to take three points away from Penrith Ice Palace, with Dorr (3A), Bernard (1G, 2A), Breault (1G, 1A) and Goransson (1G, 1A) all recording multi-point nights.
The Thunder now face the Sydney Ice Dogs in three consecutive games, the first being away at Liverpool Catholic Club Ice Rink before a home weekend on July 30-31.
