The Perth Thunder have concluded a mixed weekend in Sydney with a 3-1 loss at the hands of the Sydney Ice Dogs and Liverpool Catholic Club Ice Rink on Sunday night.
The Thunder got off to an ideal start to the game, scoring the opening goal after 11 minutes of the first period on a power play, with Jessyko Bernard finding the back of the net with assists from Ben Breault and Michael Dorr.
The Ice Dogs then scored three second-period goals to blow the game open, including a short-handed goal after eight minutes and a power play goal in the last three minutes, to take a 3-1 lead in to the second intermission.
The Thunder had six power play opportunities in the third period, but were unable to capitalise as the Ice Dogs held on for a 3-1 victory, just their fourth of the season.
The loss leaves the Thunder sitting in fourth place in the standings, 11 points clear of fifth-placed Melbourne Mustangs, but just four points behind third-placed Newcastle North Stars with three games in hand.
The game was the first of three consecutive fixtures against the Ice Dogs, with the Thunder now returning home to face the bottom-placed Ice Dogs in a wekeend series on July 30-31. You can get you tickets here.
