The Perth Thunder have completed another dramatic come-from behind victory at Perth Ice Arena, with late goals to Jessyko Bernard and Ben Breault sealing a 3-2 victory over the Sydney Ice Dogs on Saturday.
The Ice Dogs looked to have all three points in the bag with a late goal of their own seeing them take a 2-1 lead with just over four minutes on the clock.
But the Thunder weren't done, and the win now means the Thunder require only three more wins to clinch and berth in the 2016 AIHL Finals.
The Ice Dogs opened the scoring after a scoreless first period, before Rob Haselhurst levelled the scores after some great forechecking work from Liam Jeffries and Tomek Sak, who were credited with the assists.
The score remained tied at 1-1 until the final five minutes, with a crazy few bounces on an Ice Dogs goal seeing the visitors take a 2-1 lead with just under five minutes remaining.
Jessyko Bernard was then on the end of a great stretch pass to find himself open on the right wing, and made a great move across the crease to bury a backhand shot and level the score at 2-2.
The Thunder were then gifted a late power play and, having previously gone 0-for-7 on the night, saluted with a great snipe from Ben Breault to take a 3-2 lead in dramatic fashion with less than two minutes remaining.
Breault then hit the post attempting a shot at an empty net that led to a nervous final 30 seconds, but the Thunder got the job done and banked three vital points in the race for the finals.
The re-match takes place at 4.30pm today, and you can get your tickets at https://www.trybooking.com/KMDV
