After gaining five points on the weekend road trip to New South Wales, with wins over the Newcastle North Stars and Sydney Bears, the Perth Thunder have clinched a place in the 2016 AIHL Finals series, presented by Air Canada.
The Thunder came in to the weekend requiring four points in the standings to secure a place and managed to gain five, but the Sydney Ice Dogs' shock victory over the Melbourne Mustangs made sure of the Thunder's position, and ideed that of all top four combatants.
The Thunder have clinched a place alongside the Melbourne Ice, Newcastle North Stars and CBR Brave for the right to play for the Goodall Cup in Melbourne on August 27-28.
The finals series will be held at Melbourne's O'Brien Group Arena, with two sudden-death Semi-Finals taking place on August 27 before a winner takes all Grand Final on Sunday, August 28.
