The Perth Thunder has announced this morning that foundation player Dave Ruck has been appointed as the club’s new head coach.
Ruck succeeds Dave Kenway, who has moved in to the Director of Hockey role with the club, and in announcing Ruck’s appointment, Kenway said he’s well qualified for the role.
“We believe (Ruck) will spear the club in the right direction,” Kenway said via a club statement. “He has a vast knowledge of hockey with lots of coaching success in national competitions.”
Ruck, who scored 35 points in 80 games for the Thunder, also released a statement with the announcement, and said he was excited at the prospect of leading the club he once suited up for.
“I feel blessed to be selected as the head coach of the Perth Thunder for the 2017 season, and I’m excited to continue with the team and our supporters in such a pivotal role,” Ruck said. “It will be a huge challenge and one that requires the best effort from everyone involved to make season 2017 our breakthrough year.”
Ruck also cited his involvement from the club’s beginnings and said he’ll use it as motivation to help deliver the club the ultimate success.
“As a foundation player I can say with confidence I have as big a drive as anyone to get the team that elusive first Goodall Cup,” Ruck said.
