After backing up his 2014/15 AIHL Rookie of the Year season with another stellar campaign, Perth Thunder forward Kieren Webster has continued his fine form at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championships in Spain.
Leading the team in scoring, Webster put up the Australian’s only two goals against Spain, and three assists in their 5-6 loss to Mexico.
In his third year of junior competition, Webster said his expectations have increased.
“My role is on the team is to bring experience and lead by example,” he said.
“Because I have played two years of juniors already, I am able to pass on my knowledge about training camps to the younger guys who have never experienced something like this before.
“I am trying to be the best role model I can for the team, and take in the experience as much as possible being my last year of juniors.
“Everyone is on board with representing Australia, from our rookies to the older guys.”
Looking ahead to Australia's match with Korea, Webster said the major focus will be on systems.
“We need to get our systems down pat, keep our feet moving and get in the shooting lanes,” he said.
“All the guys on the team will be prepared to do anything for their country when the time comes.”
Kieren and the Australian National Junior Team will face Korea Tuesday, January 10 at 8pm (AWST), and a live telecast can be found by following this link - http://bit.ly/2jmVZUA.
