Andrew Cox yesterday became the third Perth Thunder player in 2017 to bring home a Silver medal from the IIHF World Championships, with his New Zealand Ice Blacks finishing second in their Division 2 Group B tournament in New Zealand.
The Ice Blacks finished behind China in the standings, registering their only loss of the tournament (2-5) against the eventual champions on the second day of competition.
Playing host for the tournament, the Ice Blacks defeated Turkey (4-1), Israel (5-2), Mexico (4-2) and The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (8-1) on their way to a four win, one loss record.
Cox registered a goal and two assists across the five games, stretching his all-time goal scoring lead for New Zealand, and will return to Perth with his fourth IIHF Silver medal (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017) to go with his 2014 Bronze medal.
