Breault to Coach Thunder

Breault to Coach Thunder

Thunder Staff

The CD Dodd Perth Thunder are pleased to announce the appointment of Ben Breault as the club’s new Head Coach, following the resignation of Dave Ruck.

Breault has spent the past two years both establishing the Perth Thunder Ice Hockey Academy and coaching the Perth Sharks of the AJIHL, which General Manager Stan Scott said made him the obvious choice as Head Coach when the position became available.

“Ben is not only a high-caliber player, but a seasoned professional, an astute thinker of the game and someone who has grown in to his coaching roles in junior hockey and at the academy,” Scott said. “Appointing Ben as Head Coach was a logical step for the club.”

31-year-old Breault is the all-time leading scorer for the Thunder, with 193 points in 110 games for the club across four seasons, and he will make the transition to coaching in 2020, as well as being the club’s fifth import player.

“I’m just extremely humbled and thankful to be given the chance to coach the Thunder,” Breault said. “It is a new chapter of my career and I am excited to start with a group of players that I already know very well.”

Breault spoke highly of outgoing Head Coach Dave Ruck, who announced his resignation last week.

“I’d like to thank Rucky for what he has brought to the team over the last three years” Breault said. “I have big shoes to fill.”
